How much space do I need around my stored items?
In refrigerated units, proper airflow is critical to maintain consistent temperature. You should leave at least 3–6 inches of space between items and walls, and at least 12 inches of clearance below the ceiling/evaporator fan. Do not block the cooling blowers.
Can I run a reefer trailer on regular building power?
Smaller walk-in coolers (12ft) run on standard 115V domestic outlets. Medium trailers (16–20ft) require 220V single-phase outlets (similar to an electric dryer). 53ft commercial reefer trailers generally run on diesel fuel, but can use 3-phase 480V electrical connections if available.
Should I choose a cooler or a freezer?
Coolers maintain temperatures between 33°F and 45°F (for fresh food, dairy, flowers). Freezers keep cargo at 0°F or lower (for frozen meats, ice cream). Dual-temperature units allow you to partition the trailer to maintain cooler and freezer spaces simultaneously.
What is the weight capacity of these units?
Standard walk-in trailers support up to 5,000–8,000 lbs of cargo. Large 53ft semi-reefers can support up to 45,000 lbs, conforming to highway weight limits. Ensure your site and driveway can support the weight of the delivery vehicle.
